Well, I am moving into finals for summer semester. We'll be finishing up the group project in public speaking tomorrow, and I'll be giving my persuasive speech on Wednesday. The annotated bibliography is due Thursday, and the research paper is due the Thursday after that. In psych, we have (I believe) two more tests. So far, it seems I may just have managed to squeak through this summer without doing to horribly bad, though I'm not going to breathe completely easily until those grades are in.
I attempted to drive down to Fairview Heights to find a corset busk, so I could make myself a nice new outfit to celebrate having survived the summer semester. I figured it would be nice to be able to wear something a bit better than jeans and t-shirts now and then.
I say I attempted to because the trip was not entirely successful, and ended with me sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck....again. I was lucky to even make it to the store at all, as the van first started acting up on the highway just before the exit to Fairview Heights. After sitting on the shoulder for a while and having a mini-panic attack, I managed to get the car moving again, and got it to the gas station where I checked the oil and the radiator. From there, I was able to drive it to the store, though it started acting up again on the way home, so rather than risk worse damage and higher tow costs, I went ahead and had it towed then. I'm hoping that whatever it is now isn't going to be too expensive.
Unfortunately, they didn't have corset busks. They did have some light boning, though, so I picked up some of that, some brown and black fabric that was on sale, and two patterns that were on sale for 99 cents each. One was a pattern for a selection of different corset types, and the other was a pretty victorian jacket pattern. I'm hoping to be able to do a few mockups of the jacket out of muslin while I save up to buy some pretty brocade and jacket lining. I'm thinking I may use the black fabric I bought to make a nice, simple sort of black dress. I really don't have much in the way of dress clothes, either.
